Day 4: Bergen op Zoom – Kreekrak lock | Kreekrak lock – Antwerp
Day 5: Antwerp – Temse – St. Amands
Day 6: St. Amands – Dendermonde – Ghent
Day 7: Ghent – Bruges
Day 8: Bruges

Day 1:    Amsterdam – Vianen

Embarkation and check-in is between 1.30 – 2 p.m., where your crew for the week will be waiting to welcome you on board. At around 2.15 p.m. the ship will depart from Amsterdam for Vianen, a small, fortified village on the Lek River. After dinner you have the opportunity to enjoy a short first test ride through the surrounding area.

Day 2:    Vianen – Schoonhoven – Kinderdijk | Kinderdijk – Dordrecht
32 km

Today you will cycle along a beautiful route to Schoonhoven – nicknamed Zilverstad (“Silver City”) – a city renowned for its talented silver smiths since the 17th century. Later in the day as you cycle through the Alblasserwaard region you will reach Kinderdijk, a village famous for its impressive row of 19 large windmills. All 19 windmills have a UNESCO cultural heritage listing and are a definite highlight – you will have the opportunity to visit one so don’t forget to bring your camera! From nearby Alblasserdam you will take the “Waterbus”, a fast ferry, that will take you and your bicycle in approx. 10 minutes to Dordrecht, one of the oldest towns in Holland..
(32 km/19 mi. or 56 km/34 mi.)

Day 3:    Dordrecht - Willemstad | Willemstad - Bergen op Zoom
42 km

As you enjoy your breakfast aboard the ship, the ship will sail to Willemstad where you will start your day’s cycling. Willemstad is a beautiful old fortified town on the Haringvliet waterway. Your bicycle ride goes to Tholen, once was an island in the middle of the large Zeeland streams, where many people fished for their living. Nowadays Tholen is connected to the mainland in various ways. Then you cycle on to the destination of this trip, Bergen op Zoom. Bergen op Zoom is a historic fortified town that once lay on the open waters of the Oosterschelde. After dinner you can take a walk through the old town. Narrow streets, old town, market and church squares and idiosyncratic monumental buildings show the history of a rich and eventful past that goes back more than eight hundred years.
(42 km/26 mi. or 50 km/31 mi.)

Day 4:    Bergen op Zoom – Kreekrak lock | Kreekrak lock – Antwerp
21 km

In the morning you will enjoy a small bike ride through the beautiful “Wouwse Plantage” surrounding Bergen op Zoom. In the early afternoon you will once again board the ship which will sail to the port city of Antwerp, situated on the river Schelde. Antwerp is famous for handling up to 80% of the world’s rough diamonds and is a city with a long list of attractions including: the City Hall, one of several majestic buildings constructed during the Renaissance period, the historical City Square Grote Market, the Onze-Lieve-Vrouwe Cathedral and the medieval Steen Castle. Dinner tonight (not included) will be in town in a restaurant of your choice (recommendations available on board).
(21 km/13 mi. or 35 km/21 mi.)

Day 5:    Antwerp – Temse – St. Amands
34 km

This morning you will cycle out of Antwerp along a picturesque section of the Schelde River to St. Amands your home for the night. There is only one way to describe the landscape around the Schelde and that is “magnificent”. It is without doubt one of the natural highlights of the tour.

Day 6:    St. Amands – Dendermonde – Ghent
52 km

Today you will continue to follow the river Schelde to Ghent where the ship will moor for the night at a lock in a suburb of town. Ghent is a lively university city that boasts a rich history. Since Roman times Ghent’s position at the junction of Leie and Schelde Rivers has ensured that it has been a successful trading port. In total the city features an Opera House, 18 museums, more than 100 churches and over 400 historical buildings. Major attractions are St. Bavo Cathedral where a number of masterpieces of medieval art including the world famous ‘Adoration of the Mystic Lamb’ by Jan van Eyck are kept and the 91-metre-tall belfry of Ghent, one of three medieval towers that overlook the old city center. Before dinner a small canal boat will take you for a guided tour through the historic city.
(52km / 32 mi.)

Day 7:    Ghent – Bruges
22 km

Today you will cycle from Ghent through the beautiful Flemish countryside of western Flanders to Bruges, widely described as the ‘Venice of the North’ and arguably the most beautiful of all the Flemish cities. Bruges attracts more than two million visitors every year who come to see the picturesque medieval town center of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed historic city and a long list of historic attractions. An outstanding example of a medieval historic settlement, Bruges has managed to maintain its historic fabric as it has evolved over the centuries, with the result that today the city’s original Gothic buildings form an integral part of the town’s identity. While you are here you can visit one of Bruges many museums or simply take in the stunning beauty and culture of this unforgettable city from the comfort of a sidewalk café.
(22 km / 13 mi. or 45 km / 28 mi.)

Day 8:    Bruges

End of your tour: Disembarkation after breakfast until 9.30 a.m.

Accommodation

Fluvius
The Fluvius has been a popular choice for guests for a number of years now on the cycling cruises between Amsterdam and Bruges. The former cargo barge was totally rebuilt and extended in 2003 into a luxury river cruise barge. In winter 2017-2018, four additional upper deck double cabins were realized. The Fluvius sails under Dutch flag and management. The Fluvius now caters for max. 44 passengers.

Description of the cabins:
The Fluvius has eighteen twin cabins and four double cabins. On the upper deck, there are three standard twin cabins (11 m² – 118 sq.ft. ) with two separate single beds and four double cabins (12 m² – 129 sq.ft. ) with a double bed (160 x 200 cm) and a large panoramic window. On the lower deck you will find fourteen standard twin cabins (11 m² – 118 sq.ft.) and one smaller twin cabin (10 m² – 108 sq.ft.), all of which have two separate single beds. On prior request, a child’s cot can be placed in two of the standard twin cabins.

Each cabin has an en-suite bathroom with shower, toilet and basin. All twin cabins have a fixed window, the panoramic window in the double cabins can be opened. Each cabin has an individually adjustable air-conditioning unit, a ventilation system, a flatscreen TV and a hair dryer.

Description of the ship:
The Fluvius has a large lounge (air-conditioned) with TV, bar and a semi-separate restaurant area. Wi-Fi is available. The barge also has a large sun deck with sitting places (tables and chairs) and a storage room for the bikes. While cruising, you can enjoy the scenery from here.

Lena Maria
After several years working on a ship, it was time for a new adventure for Eelke and his wife, Carlien. So they took over the boutique canal barge the Lena Maria, which can carry a maximum of 24 passengers. “The Lena Maria is big enough to offer high-quality accommodations and small enough to provide an intimate atmosphere”, explains Eelke. “So, people connect with each other very quickly on board. Also, we have a crew of four people, which is a lot, considering the number of guests. This way we can best take care of everyone.”

Metamorphosis for the Lena Maria:
Since Carlien and Eelke bought the Lena Maria, the barge has undergone a metamorphosis. “Inside, everything was brown and white. We’ve modernized that and furnished it in our own style. Everything has become brighter; there is a homey floor and we’ve added a bar. This has made the restaurant and lounge area more open and much cozier,” Eelke reports. “But I’m actually constantly busy making everything even nicer. I’ve renovated a lot of ships before and that’s just way too much fun for me,” he laughs.

To the coziest places:
The small size of the Lena Maria has another advantage, says Eelke. “It allows us to sail along narrow canals and dock in smaller harbors where things are really cozy. Guests are that little bit closer to the scenery. We can cruise in areas that aren’t overrun with tourists.” For example, the Lena Maria runs the Boat Bike Tours cycling cruises between Amsterdam and Bruges, the Hanseatic Tour and the Discover Friesland Tour, Eelke’s favorite.

Description of the cabins:
The Lena Maria has twelve spacious twin cabins (10,5 m² – 113 sq.ft.) with two separate beds. Each cabin has a private shower, toilet and basin. Windows can be opened and the cabins have individually controlled air-conditioning, ventilation and central heating. Furthermore, you will find a hair dryer in each cabin.

Description of the ship:
On the upper deck of the Lena Maria you will find the cozy lounge with the bar and dining area. Wi-Fi is available. The barge also has a beautiful sundeck, where you can have a drink. On nice evenings, or while cruising, you can enjoy the scenery from here.

The Fiep has twelve comfortable guest cabins, situated on the lower deck. Ten twin cabins (10 m² – 108 sq.ft.) with two separate single beds and two twin cabins (8 m² – 86 sq.ft.) with two split level beds. These twins can also be used as singles by folding up the split level bed. Each cabin has a private shower, toilet and basin. Windows can be opened and the cabins have central heating and air-conditioning. Furthermore, in each cabin you will find a mini safe and hair dryer.

Description of the ship:
On the upper deck, there is the air-conditioned lounge, a spacious sitting area with wide screen TV, a cozy bar and a large sundeck. Wi-Fi is available. The sundeck is the ideal place to drink a cup of coffee or an aperitif and to enjoy the scenery while cruising. The bicycles on board is a unisex city bike with a low-entry and a riding position that is upright and comfortable. The bike is handmade in the Netherlands by Azor, specially designed by Boat Bike Tours. This all results in a lightweight, stable and reliable bike, good for many miles on the saddle.
The E-bike is an Azor Steps with Nexus 7 gears and hand brakes. The crank Shimano motor (400 WH) offers 4 support levels, The E-bikes have a comfortable gel saddle and a lock on the frame (or a comparable brand/model).
Bicycle rent is optional. Guests are also allowed to bring their own bicycles/e-bikes (limited number of parking places available). Guests can book a parking place for a normal bicycle or a parking and charge station for an e-bike for a small additional fee. Please note: For safety reasons, it is not allowed to use the rental (e-) bikes for self-arranged rides in Amsterdam: in these cases, the limitation of liability does not apply.

Almost all of the rental bicycles are traditional touring bicycles (women’s models) with 7 or 8 gears, hand brakes (some with pedal brake) and pannier bags.  E-bikes feature a small electric engine and battery that assist and ease your pedaling, but they do not feature autonomous propulsion. It is like having a tailwind, so it is easier, but you still have to pedal.
Please note: all bicycles have normal pedals, no click pedals. So please wear ordinary sporting shoes. Changing pedals is not possible.

Prices for other rental bicycles, like children’s bikes, tandems, trailer bikes (slip streamers), children’s seats, and bike trailers are available on request. Guests are also allowed to bring their own bicycles or E-bikes, please let us know so we can reserve a space on board for you.
However, the crew or tour operator is in no way responsible for any damage, loss or theft of such bicycles.
