Arrival in Ede |
Day 2 | Ede - Strand Nulde | 56 km |
From the hotel you leave Ede and go in the direction of Lunteren. Your first destination is the geographic center of the Netherlands at the Lunterse Goudsberg, where you cycle between woods, heathland, drifting sands and old farmland. |
Day 3 | Strand Nulde - Zwolle | 70 km |
Along the shores of Randmeren lakes you will reach Harderwijk. As you will see by the remnants of its rich past, it used to be an important fishing port and trading town on the coast of the Zuiderzee. How different is its situation today! Ride your bike atop Knardijk dike, with water left and right, onto this "new land". Then make your way along the shore of Lake Veluwe to the beautiful medieval village of Elburg. Youll love this place with its pretty buildings and tranquil ambiance! Todays cycle tour ends in the market town of Zwolle. Surrounded by four rivers, it has always been a traffic junction, attracting traders and travellers. You will find remains of the medieval city wall and other monuments from the days when Zwolle was a member of the Hansa League. |
Day 4 | Zwolle - Deventer | 49 km |
This stretch of the bike tour is mainly dominated by the river IJssel and the neighboring small and large towns. You cycle through the so-called IJssel lowlands. On the right eastern bank of the river with its lovely views, you will pass nice places like Wijhe and Olst. The delightful old Hanseatic city of Deventer surpasses them all. In this once mighty city, which is beautifully situated on the IJssel, much of the rich past can still be seen. The city has preserved hundreds of historical buildings, many of them on Brink square. This is where youll also find a cake shop selling the local delicacy, Deventer Bussink koek, which you might like to sample. Deventer is also famous for its markets, fairs and festivals. There is much to see and do, in short - let yourself be surprised. |
Day 5 | Deventer - Arnhem | 57 km |
The River IJssel will also accompany you on the first part of todays cycle trip. The views are great. Visit the historical town of Zutphen and other pretty towns located on the fringes of National Park Veluwezoom, like Bronkhorst, the smallest town in the Netherlands. Its a truly lovely area. The route then continues, across woodland and heath land, up and over the Posbank which is slightly hilly by our standards. Dont say we didn't warn you! |
Day 6 | Arnhem - Ede | 62 km |
Follow the Rhine river along the foot of the Zuid Veluwe hills. Doorwerth Castle is a nice place to visit and enjoy a cup of coffee with cake. A slightly tough climb over the Holleweg takes you via the Duno and Hoog Oorsprong country estates to the Airborne Museum in Oosterbeek, where you will learn everything about the Battle of Arnhem (1944). This route can be shortened by 20 km by skipping the part towards Oosterbeek. |
