Day to Day

Day 1   Arrival Muiderberg

Free parking at the hotel (no reservation required). If you plan to arrive by public transport, you should be aware that the town of Muiderberg doesn’t have a train station.  There’s a bus service for the last 30 minutes of your journey.

Day 2   Oostvaardersplassen / Marken 73 km

Oostvaardersplassen wetland is nature at its purest, a rare thing in this country. It developed all by itself when it was left alone by man after Flevo Polder was reclaimed from the sea in 1968. Although, it is relatively young for a reserve, it is undoubtedly unique, precious and beautiful. With a surface area of 6000 hectares it is the largest wetland in the country. The rough grasslands are grazed by hundreds of Konik ponies, roe deer and Heck cattle.
You can also choose a short route (55 km). You will then only go along the south banks of the lakes.

or Marken (74 km)
Follow the IJsselmeer past Muiden castle and the beautiful dyke villages of Durgerdam and Uitdam to the former Zuiderzee island of Marken. Marken is known for its green wooden houses and traditional costumes. The way back leads through Waterland, a sparsely populated area with many ditches interspersed with meadows. Enjoy the tranquility and views. If the distance to Marken is too far, you can shorten the route at various places, for example in the summermonths by using the ferry at the isolated village of Holysloot.

Day 3   Loosdrechtse Plassen 55 km

The landscape between the cities of Amsterdam and Utrecht is wet, typically Dutch, and dotted with picturesque villages. Experience the wide-open countryside and wonderful lake vistas. The emptiness of the space around you - sometimes reaching to the horizon – and the huge skies above, give one a joyous feeling of freedom.  Along the banks of meandering River Vecht you will reach the village of Weesp, a place you won’t want to miss.

Day 4   't Gooi 63 km

Set off for Naarden, one of the best-preserved fortified towns in Europe. Proceed to the polder: Arkemheen-Eemland. You’ll be amazed by the extreme openness of this unique landscape characterized by peat meadows. Further on, heather fields at the wood’s edge make for a kind of bocage landscape that is quite captivating.  How wonderful to be able to cycle back to your hotel in these natural surroundings.

Day 5   Return home

You head back home today. The tour will end after breakfast.
