Route
Day 1: Arrival in the town of Zoetermeer (near The Hague)
Day 2: Zoetermeer – The Hague – Zoetermeer
Day 3: Zoetermeer – Noordwijk aan Zee
Day 4: Go on a Round Tour of the Tulip Fields
Day 5: Noordwijk aan Zee – Zoetermeer
Day 6: Return Home

Day 1:    Arrival in the town of Zoetermeer (near The Hague)

The hotel is located in the centre of Zoetermeer. If you have time for sporting activities in Zoetermeer on arrival or departure day, these are our tips:
•SnowWorld for skiing and snowboarding all year round.
•Ayers Rock has indoor and outdoor climbing walls (book ahead).

Day 2:    Zoetermeer – The Hague – Zoetermeer
36 km

On your marks… Get set… GO! After a big breakfast, take a bike ride to The Hague. For traditional sightseeing visit the Royal Palace & Gardens, Parliament, churches etc. If your children appreciate the arts, opt to take them to see quaint Panorama Mesdag or the amazing Escher Museum of optical illusions. Teenagers (10+) will be fascinated by “De Wonderkamers”, a truly excellent interactive art exhibition, at Gemeente Museum. Alternatively, learn all about the Netherlands whilst ambling through delightful Madurodam (Miniature Holland).

Day 3:    Zoetermeer – Noordwijk aan Zee
32 km

At breakfast, don’t forget to try Dutch chocolate sprinkles on your bread! Then hit the road and pedal towards the coast. On the way, you will pass through a posh and leafy community called Wassenaar where our king and queen used to live with their three lovely daughters. If your children like amusement parks, opt to stop off at Duinrel. Top attractions include the Dragonfly rollercoaster and a waterslide paradise but the playgrounds are great too. Later on, head up the coast enjoying the sea, beach, dunes and woods. At the end of the day, watch the sun set into the sea in Noordwijk aan Zee.

Day 4:    Go on a Round Tour of the Tulip Fields
28 km

Noordwijk aan Zee lies in the Dune and Bulb Region. Make sure to come in springtime when streaks of bright colours light up the landscape: Tulip fields are absolutely sensational! Who will take the best picture of the day? Keukenhof flower park is world famous and extremely busy in the 8 weeks a year it is open. If you can handle crowds, don’t miss the spectacular floral displays – they are unforgettable! When you’ve had enough of flowers, opt to visit Space Expo for everything you ever wanted to know about astronauts, rockets, satellites etc. Alternatively, head back to the beach and go for a paddle in the sea or build a sandcastle.

Day 5:    Noordwijk aan Zee – Zoetermeer
35 km

The scenic route back to Zoetermeer takes you inland past Katwijk, Leiden and Voorschoten. The historical university town of Leiden boasts some charming canals and excellent museums. Our tips: Naturalis (natural history museum) holds wide appeal – the kids won’t want to leave! Corpus - The Journey through the Human Body is a great experience for kids! The botanical gardens are quietly impressive. The National Museum of Antiquities exhibits finds from Ancient Greece, Egypt and the Roman Empire. In the National Museum of Ethnology the cultures of the world pass you by. Tourists like to visit the windmill “Molen de Valk” and cruise the canals in a rented motorboat.

Accommodation

The hotels and the B&B on this trip have been carefully selected for their location, atmosphere and/or unique services. All rooms are en-suite. A list of the accomodation we work with appears below. If a certain accomodation is unable to confirm due to lack of availability, we will try to request a comparable alternative if possible.

When selecting the accomodation, we try to take into account as much as possible a safe and closed bicycle shed. However, we cannot do this with all of them guarantee and this partly depends on the number of bicycles of other guests.

Golden Tulip Zoetermeer Den Haag **** (Zoetermeer)
Two Brothers Noordwijk Beach **** (Noordwijk)
Bikes

If you don’t bring your own, you can rent a bicycle from us. Our standard bikes are 7-speed gear. You can find all the information regarding our rental bikes below.

You will find your rental bikes waiting for you at your first accommodation. The reception staff will give you the keys for your bikes and direct you to the bicycle shed. All bikes are provided with chain locks.

Our standard bikes have 7-gears with hand brakes.
The standard bikes are circa 20 kilo.

The e-bikes have a small electric engine and battery, which can be charged at the hotels. You still have to pedal: it just makes pedaling much easier. Some experience with e-bikes is recommended, as the bikes accelerate faster and are heavier than regular bikes because of the electric engine. The weight of the e-bike is ca. 27 kilo.

A child trailer cannot be attached on an e-bike.

Brand: Alba, 28 inch, frame size 50/54, 7 gears.

For children we offer several models child bikes from the brand Batavus.
The child bikes come with at least 3-gears and have hand brakes and pedal brakes.
The saddle is adjustable in height, the steering wheel is not.
The maximum body height for a child’s bike is 155 cm.

20 inch child bike: from 5 years/115 cm
Child bike StayOkay 20 inch

Child seats are €7,50 per day

Helmet

Helmets are not mandatory in the Netherlands, but can be rented for €10,- per piece.
Available sizes: Adult and child.

Lights

All our bikes come with both front- and rear lights.

Locks

Our bikes come with a defender lock with plug in chain (cable lock that is attached to the regular lock, see picture).

You need to turn the key a bit, take out the pin from the cable lock and attach it to a pole/other bike/fence etc.

When you push the pin back into the regular lock, you need to lock the regular lock as you always do, and both locks will be secured.

Pannier

1 pannier is included at the 'standard' bikes and the e-bikes.

Height: 42 cm
Depth front to the side: 17 cm
Wide top: 32 cm
Wide down: 23 cm

The rental bikes come with regular pedals, so no click-in/SPD pedals.

Quickrelease

All our bikes come with a quick release system, which makes it very easy to adjust the height of the saddle and the handle bars.

Repairkit

There is one small puncture kit and pump included, which can be found in the pannier. In case a rental bike has another problem, we always advise you to go to a bike repair shop or call the bike breakdown emergency number which is provided in the travel documents when you book this extra service.

Saddle

Saddles can be adjusted in height without using any tools, see ‘Quick Release’.
Our saddles don’t come with a gel cover.

Waterbottles

Dutch Biketours does not provide water bottles. We can also not guarantee that there are bottle holders on the bikes. You will always receive 1x pannier, so you can always store your own water bottle in your pannier.

We have limited family tandem bikes available on request.
The family tandems have 7-gears and can be used for one adult and one child between 4 and 8 years old (height between 105 and 130 cm).
Brand: Onderwater

Child trailers can be rented for children who are up to 100 cm (max. 35 KG in total).
Child trailers are not possible in combination with e-bikes.

Reviews

07-09-2023

One of our favorite moments in our trip was cresting the small hill from the mainland and seeing and hearing the North Sea for the first time. It was an absolutely spectacular place to bike along the coast. World class views and experience. It was on our bucket list to travel the Netherlands by bike and it exceeded our expectations.

03-08-2023

We had a lovely time in Southern Netherlands, the bike routes were well chosen and the family rooms in the hotels were very good.

....Thank you for your professional organization of our trip. Thank you for being flexible and quickly adjusting the change of dates of our travel. The trip was beautiful and the GPS worked brilliantly taking us through very picturesque locations. Some suggestions would be to have someone meet and greet the clients on the first day and spend 10 or 20 minutes with the client to show them the GPS/ review the route and show the highlights / touristic attractions of each place.  Its just more comforting for first timers to have someone on the first day to give the emergency number. Despite my suggestions, all the relevant documents/information was in place when we arrived. Thanks again for a wonderful holiday,...

31-05-2015

...We got home yesterday from our holiday and I wanted to let you know how brilliant it was. It was a really good mixture of different things to see and do, art galleries and theme parks, everyone was happy. The routes were beautiful and the right distance for our 10 year old daughter, leaving us enough energy and time to do other things. We are now big fans of cycling in Holland and we'll definitely be coming back!...

20-04-2015

...We had a great time and will definitely think about coming back someday. It was really fun...
