Bike Tour: Stagecoach Tour - 7 days

The lovely Stagecoach Route runs through attractive and diverse landscapes. The Posbank, for example, is part of National Park Veluwezoom. It’s an area of heath, pine trees and sand drifts. After a hefty climb to the top, enjoy breathtaking views. You’ll also visit a riverbank nature reserve as well as a string of pretty towns that used to be members of the Hansa League, a Northern European alliance of trading guilds in the 13th-17th Centuries. After a satisfying day’s cycling, relax at an excellent hotel.
Day 1: Arrival in Ede
Day 2: Ede - Strand Nulde
Day 3: Strand Nulde - Zwolle
Day 4: Zwolle - Deventer
Day 5: Deventer - Arnhem
Day 6: Arnhem - Ede
Day 7: Return home

Day 1:    Arrival in Ede

Arrival in Ede

Day 2:    Ede - Strand Nulde
63 km

Leaving Ede, you will cycle through the local woods and heath to the town of Otterlo. From there enter Hoge Veluwe National Park, where you can also visit the excellent art Museum Kröller-Möller, which houses one of the largest van Gogh collection worldwide. An entrance ticket to the park is included in the tour price. The bike route continues to Strand Nulde a recreational area providing beaches and water sports along the shores of Lake Veluwe/ Nuldernauw.

Day 3:    Strand Nulde - Zwolle
65 km

Along the shores of Randmeren lakes you will reach Harderwijk. As you will see by the remnants of its rich past, it used to be an important fishing port and trading town on the coast of the Zuiderzee. How different is its situation today! Just off the coast is now the largest artificial island in the world: the Flevopolder. Ride your bike atop Knardijk dike, with water left and right, onto this "new land". Then make your way along the shore of Lake Veluwe to the beautiful medieval village of Elburg. Youll love this place with its pretty buildings and tranquil ambiance! Todays cycle tour ends in the market town of Zwolle. Surrounded by four rivers, it has always been a traffic junction, attracting traders and travellers. You will find remains of the medieval city wall and other monuments from the days when Zwolle was a member of the Hansa League.

Day 4:    Zwolle - Deventer
49 km

On todays stretch of the bike tour we will follow the River IJssel to Deventer. This delightful old Hansa town is situated very beautifully on the river and has preserved hundreds of historical buildings, many of them on Brink square. This is where youll also find a cake shop selling the local delicacy, which you might like to sample. Deventer is also famous for its markets, fairs and festivals.

Day 5:    Deventer - Arnhem
61 km

The River IJssel will also accompany you on the first part of todays cycle trip. The views are great. Visit the historical town of Zutphen and other pretty towns located on the fringes of National Park Veluwezoom, like Bronkhorst, the smallest town in the Netherlands. Its a truly lovely area. The route then continues, across woodland and heath land, up and over the Posbank which is slightly hilly by our standards. Dont say we didn't warn you!
You can also opt for a long version via Hanseatic City Doesburg, 74 km.

Day 6:    Arnhem - Ede
33 km

Today's route goes from Arnhem through the southern part of the Veluwe. This short stage offers opportunities to explore Arnhem, visit the Burgers Zoo or the open-air museum. You cycle through the hilly, woody country estate Groot Warnsborn. The estate is known for its majestic terrace garden. You will pass the Airborn Museum, where you will learn everything about the Battle of Arnhem (1944). Follow the Rhine river along the foot of the Zuid Veluwe hills. Doorwerth Castle is a nice place to visit and enjoy a cup of coffee with cake. Finally you cycle through the stream valley of the Renkumse Beek and along the Ginkelse Heide back to Ede.

...The trip provided good riding length on all days except the last which was a bit short. and over too quickly. However this was a day when we stopped at the military cemetery and airborne museum outside Arnhem that the route passed directly beside. The trip length each day allowed us to stop en route and enjoy the surrounding countryside, cafes and towns. In Elberg we even managed a 50 minute boat trip!...

...We had a really good time and the weather was fantastic (if a little hot at times!!). We found the bikes and instructions you left us at the hotel excellent and although we got lost a couple of times, generally getting from one hotel to another was straightforward. The food in the hotels was of a very high standard and it was nice to see the menus included a lot of local produce/dishes. The Reehorst and Mercure hotels were of an exceptional standard. We found the experience absolutely brilliant and we will always have fond memories of the people and places. We would highly recommend you to others....

...Thanks for the follow-up. We enjoyed the trip very much. Bikes were at the hotel when we arrived as was the welcome package. Bikes were easy to carry, locks worked and tools were in the pannier....

....We had a wonderful time on your tour. The route was beautiful and we found the Dutch people so friendly and helpful.
We did wonder if the children would find the distances too much but they loved the challenge.
All the hotels were lovely. The only minor issue that we found was that travelling as a family we didn’t always want to eat in the hotel restaurants. Sometimes we wanted a more relaxed and cheaper alternative. We were able to find these usually but a tourist map of each town might have made that a bit easier.
However it was a wonderful experience and I am sure we will be travelling with you again soon....
